WHY DO I LOVE MY JOB?
ANDREA PAYME - The Human Being
I´m a native New Yorker who's been living in Panama since joining the Peace Corps back in 1999. I spent three fulfilling years serving as a Small Business volunteer and an English Language tutor. Before that, I studied in New York University's "15-year Switch Your Major Three Times" program—yes, it was all the rage in the 80s and 90s! Eventually, I graduated with a BA in International Studies.
Along the way, I traveled as a backpacker for 1.5 years, became a Corporate Events Planner at the now-defunct Salomon Brothers Investment Bank, and became fluent in Spanish.
After completing my Peace Corps assignment, I opened and successfully operated The Purple House International Backpacker Hostel in David City, Panama. During that time, I not only met thousands of people from all over the globe, but I also learned how to say "the bathroom is that way" in 34 different languages!
Those were great times, but after many years in the corporate world and the tourism industry, I decided to turn the page and start a new chapter:

These days, I share my time between Panama and Israel (now that's a commute!). And while the world's views on Israel are complicated, mine aren't at all. I'm thrilled that I moved here and now call it home—and it's added a unique perspective to my life experience and my writing. But I'll tell you what, learning Hebrew is not for the faint of heart!
